Interview with Keven Dionne Bourgon, Electrician, Electrical Services and Special Projects
Yasmine: Hello Keven! Thank you for accepting our invitation to this interview. To begin with, can you tell us about your background and what led you to become an electrician at DAWCO?
Keven: I have been working at DAWCO for over five years now. It was Richard Desforges, Director of Electrical Services and Special Projects, my current boss, who offered me the opportunity to work at DAWCO. We had worked together in the past, and I knew he was professional, pragmatic, and easy to get along with. I chose to work in services because I enjoy customer contact and the variety of tasks. I never do the same thing twice, I have a flexible schedule and a certain amount of freedom... along with, of course, a lot of responsibility.
Yasmine: We can tell you really appreciate this dynamic environment! So what motivates you most within the department?
Keven: It's the fact that you never know exactly what you're going to encounter. Every contract brings its own unexpected events and challenges. Sometimes a factory is shut down and we have limited time to get the machines up and running again. You learn a lot in these situations.
Yasmine: And I imagine there's also a great sense of satisfaction when the problem is solved and the customer leaves happy...
Keven: Exactly! That's why we get called back: we offer a service that exceeds our customers' expectations.
Yasmine: And these aren't “standard” projects! How does your role differ from that of an electrician on more traditional construction sites?
Keven: My work is always different from one week to the next. The contracts are varied, and we never spend much time on the same site. But even in a short period of time, we have a major impact.
Yasmine: Speaking of which, can you tell me about a recent project that made an impression on you?
Keven: Yes, I'm currently finishing a project at CEZinc, Canada's largest zinc producer. I'm the foreman on the project: I planned the gutters and cables and supervised the inspection work, all within an extremely tight deadline.
We started with three people, then grew to about ten workers for two weeks, working in confined spaces that were very difficult to access. It was physically demanding, but I have a skilled and experienced team. In fact, I think we're well supported at DAWCO.
Yasmine: It's clear that teamwork is essential to you! What do you appreciate most about the work culture at DAWCO?
Keven: People's expertise. No matter what the need—health and safety, purchasing, technical—there's always someone we can turn to for advice. It's not just a company: it's a huge team effort.
Yasmine: It's true that this spirit of collaboration is one of DAWCO's great strengths. And in your opinion, what sets your department apart?
Keven: Our efficiency and integrity towards our clients.
Yasmine: Indeed, these are two essential values that make all the difference in building trust with clients. Outside of work, how do you recharge your batteries?
Keven: I love to travel, especially to the United States where I have family. My partner, my 18-month-old son, and I fly there; he already has three trips under his belt!
Yasmine: Many parents are hesitant to travel with a baby, but that doesn't stop you! How do you manage to balance your work and family life?
Keven: I have a wonderful partner who helps me enormously. And my schedule, which is more flexible than the traditional one, makes things easier.
Yasmine: It's clear that balance is possible with good support and organization. If I asked you to describe DAWCO in one word?
Keven: I would say pragmatic. We know how to anticipate problems and find solutions before they become critical.
Yasmine: Great conclusion! Thank you for your time, Keven, and for this wonderful insight into your daily life in Electrical Services and Special Projects. All the best!
Keven: Thank you, Yasmine, it's my pleasure.
