Interview with Keven Dionne Bourgon, Electrician, Electrical Services and Special Projects

Yasmine: Hello Keven! Thank you for accepting our invitation to this interview. To begin with, can you tell us about your background and what led you to become an electrician at DAWCO?

Keven: I’ve been working at DAWCO for a little over five years. It was Richard Desforges, Director of Electrical Services and Special Projects—my current manager—who offered me the opportunity to join DAWCO. We had already worked together in the past, and I knew he was professional, pragmatic, and great to work with.
I chose to work in service because I enjoy client contact and the variety of assignments. I never do the same thing twice; I have a flexible schedule and a certain level of freedom… along with, of course, a fair share of responsibilities.

Yasmine: We can tell you really appreciate this dynamic environment! So what motivates you most within the department?

Keven: The fact that you never know exactly what you’re going to encounter. Every contract brings unexpected situations and challenges. Sometimes a plant is down, and we have only a limited time to get the machines running again. You learn a lot in those situations.

Yasmine: And I imagine there’s great satisfaction when the problem is solved and the client is happy…

Keven: Exactly! That’s why we get called back—we deliver a service that exceeds our clients’ expectations.

Yasmine: And these aren’t “standard” projects! How does your role differ from that of an electrician on more traditional construction sites?

Keven: My work is always different from one week to the next. The contracts are varied, and we’re never on the same site for long. But even in a short time, we make a major impact.

Yasmine: Speaking of which, can you tell me about a recent project that left an impression on you?

Keven: Yes. Right now, I’m wrapping up a project at CEZinc, the largest zinc producer in Canada. I’m the foreman on the project: I planned the cable trenches, laid out the wiring, and supervised control work—all within a very tight schedule. We started with three people and grew to about ten workers over two weeks, working in confined spaces that were difficult to access. It was physically demanding, but I have a skilled and experienced team. And I have to say, DAWCO provides excellent support.

Yasmine: It’s clear that teamwork is essential for you! What do you appreciate most about DAWCO’s work culture?

Keven: The expertise of the people. Whatever the need—health and safety, purchasing, technical—we always have someone we can turn to for advice. It’s not just a company; it’s a huge team effort.

Yasmine: That spirit of collaboration is indeed one of DAWCO’s great strengths. In your view, what sets your department apart?

Keven: Our efficiency and our integrity toward clients.

Yasmine: Absolutely—two key values that make all the difference when building client trust. Outside of work, how do you recharge?Keven Dionne Bourgon 2

Keven: I love to travel, especially to the United States where I have family. My partner, my 18-month-old son, and I fly there; he already has three trips under his belt!

Yasmine: Many parents are hesitant to travel with a baby, but that doesn't stop you! How do you manage to balance your work and family life?

Keven: I have a wonderful partner who helps me a lot. And my schedule, which is more flexible than a traditional one, makes things easier.

Yasmine: It’s inspiring to see that balance is possible with good support and organization. If you had to describe DAWCO in just one word?

Keven: I would say pragmatic. We know how to anticipate problems and find solutions before they become critical.

Yasmine: Great conclusion! Thank you for your time, Keven, and for this wonderful insight into your daily life in Electrical Services and Special Projects. All the best!

Keven: Thank you, Yasmine, it's my pleasure.
