All aboard!

In April 2017, DAWCO was awarded a mandate by Davie to complete electrical and instrumentation work as part of the major conversion of the “Asterix” container ship into an auxiliary oil replenishment (AOR) vessel for the Canadian Navy.

The overall construction scope for the conversion comprised steel removal, steel fabrication and erection, pipe spool assembly and installation, and over 150,000 meters of cable pulling. DAWCO’s portion of the construction scope included installation work for power generation units, communication systems, and platform management systems. The mandate required the expertise of roughly 50 workers, including electricians, welders and pipefitters.

In this new (unfamiliar) context, work was performed under very hot conditions, in confined spaces, and required extensive personal protective equipment, including respiratory equipment. In spite of these demanding work conditions, the project was a complete success from start to finish. DAWCO ensured the safety and well-being of its workers who displayed commitment and dedication throughout the project, working closely together to complete the mandate with the full support and praise of the client. In fact, our team met with the client on a weekly basis and consistently received very positive feedback.

Thanks to the Davie Shipyard project, DAWCO has stepped out of its comfort zone and chartered new waters. Never having worked on a ship, our team of workers banded together to make the project a success. We hope that this project is the first of many in the naval industry.

Congratulations to the entire team for a job well done!
