Kruger recently announced a modernization project to convert its No. 10 Newsprint Machine (PM10) at its Trois-Rivières mill. This project consists in creating new containerboard for the packaging industry. This type of paper will be lighter and more resistant than conventional linerboard. It will also allow packaging manufacturers to maximize the efficiency of materials used and meet the needs of their clients. Overall, the PM10 will incorporate the most advanced containerboard manufacturing technology from Europe and North America, in order to produce lighter and stronger products.
At the beginning of 2017, DAWCO was awarded two mandates, one electrical and one instrumentation. Both mandates are key to the integration and proper functioning of the new technologies on the PM10.
The mandates consist of various types of installations and disassembling. More than 100 km of power and control cable will be installed, and hundreds of feet of cable trays will be suspended. Our teams will also be responsible for the installation and wiring of various consoles (DCS, PLC, etc.) and equipment. The work will take place over a four month period, the majority of which will be carried out during the shutdown of the machine.
In order to meet the tight deadlines set by the client, we have assigned 100 electricians to the project. We have also called upon the services of our superintendents who have recently returned from out West to oversee the management of these two mandates. Their field experience has allowed them to develop unparalleled expertise in this area. Our supervisory team, made up of Alain Ross, Project Manager; Guy Leblanc, Superintendent – Electrical; and Sylvain Proulx, Superintendent – Instrumentation, will oversee the execution of the mandates.
DAWCO is proud of its renewed collaboration with Kruger, a long-time client, with whom it has carried out many important mandates over the years.
